To create my resumes, I used a series of structured prompts to help the AI understand how to tailor my experience for different industries. I began by asking the AI to extract the core information from my original resume, including my work history, awards, skills, and education. Then I used targeted prompts, such as “Rewrite this resume for a marketing career” and “Reframe these experiences as strengths for a design-focused role.” I also requested changes in tone, formatting, and which skills to highlight based on what employers in each field typically look for. The biggest differences between the original and the AI-generated versions were the emphasis and language. For the marketing version, the resume focused more on communication, customer interaction, and branding. For the design version, the resume highlighted creativity, design awards, and my t-shirt/logo business. Through this process, I learned that prompt engineering is about being specific, clearly stating the industry, tone, and skills to highlight, which leads to much stronger results. I also learned how the same experience can be reframed for different audiences simply by shifting wording and focus.
